Dice program - Fixed or Random?

I was sat in the lobby waiting for a tourney to start yesterday and several players were complaining about the Pogo Dice saying how "unreal" they are. Shortly after, during the tourney, one of my opps told me that I was lucky and that the dice always favoured me.

My BG play is based purely on my experience over the years and feel for the dice on any given day. I have never read a book on the subject nor had any coaching. I have played on-line for many years at many different sites - MSN, Pogo, Yahoo, World Gaming Center generally, but others too. I have no doubt that ALL on-line dice programs are as random as they can be. We ALL have good days and bad days and most of us get frustrated with the dice at times BUT the dice program does not know what game is being played, how many players are playing or whose turn it is.

Let's look at a few statistics:

In an ideal world a player will roll a double every 6 rolls, 2 consecutive doubles every 36 rolls, 3 consecutive doubles every 216 rolls, 4 consecutive doubles every 1296 rolls.

At Pogo (excluding the members rooms) there are 52 public rooms.

Let's say that 50 matches are played each day in each room. That is 2600 matches per day.

Let's say that during a game each player rolls the dice 25 times.

If we say that on average each match is 3 points. That would mean between 150 and 250 rolls per game.

Taking the middle point of 200. That means that there are 520,000 rolls of the dice at Pogo for BG alone.

Those "unreal" dice come around a lot quicker than you might think!!!!

If you are fortunate you will get more than your fair share of the "unreal" rolls. If you are unlucky you will not BUT that luck will even out in time. That is why you may be "hot" one day and "cold" the next.

Sometimes we have just got to accept that no matter how good we are (or how good we think we are), it just isn't our day.

Have a great day (and keep praying to the dice gods!!!).

true enuff, believe me. i play weird sometimes and it pays off nicely with some rolls. some times tho it backfires terribly and i am hard pressed to save a backgammon. let alone a gammon. it comes down to alot of luck. and some skill... if u r lucky u will get away with hitting your opponent and not getting hit back. as to the dice... well as was stated above pray to the pogo gods.. i do...

Well I must say Nobs well said .. I wish the whiners in the lobby would stop the ranting on and on about nothing we have control over. And to accuse someone of cheating in this game is truely a slap in anyones face. POGO is like that saying -- "Some days you eat the Bear other days the Bear eats you !!!!!!!!!!
