How To Play
Now that you're a member of the Ladder, you're probably wondering how to play games over the Internet. Well, you've come to the right place! There are basically two components needed to play games over the Internet. The first is finding where players are meeting to play games for your Ladder. The second is setting up the game.

FINDING OPPONENTS
The first step is finding where the members of your Ladder meet to compete. Members usually gather in a designated chat room. Where are these chat rooms? This varies from game-to-game and Ladder-to-Ladder. It can range from web sites to gaming services to other methods. The most popular location of chat rooms for Internet games is via a gaming service. At the bottom of the page you will find a listing of some popular gaming services. A link to the exact location of the chat room used to play Ladder matches and/or Tournaments for your Ladder is usually located on the Ladder's main page or in the 'Rules' section.

Once you have found the appropriate chat room for your Ladder, you would then enter the chat room and ask if anyone would like to play a Case's Ladder match. You will see others doing the same. When someone accepts your challenge, you are halfway there!

PLAYING THE GAME
Now that you've found opponents to compete against, the next step is setting up the game. Again, this will vary from game-to-game, and is dependant upon which method of Internet-support the game provides.

    Gaming Services
Some games can be played only on third-party gaming services. A gaming service is a web site where people go to play games over the Internet. Generally, you will need to download some additional software and register a username in order to play a game at a gaming service. It is best to use the exact login name you have signed up for on Case's Ladder. The next step is to choose your game in the gaming service interface. You will then be taken to a chat room where people are meeting for that game (see above). Once you have found someone to play a match against, you will either start a game or join a game. If you start a game, then you usually control the game options/settings and someone will join your game. When the match is over, the loser will report the loss to the Ladder.

    In-Game Support
Many games have Internet-play and chat rooms built directly into the game itself. In this case, when you start the game there is usually an option to connect to a chat room. This chat room is usually hosted by the company that developed the game. In this scenario one person will generally host the game and others will join it. Usually the person hosting will start the game. When the match is over, the loser will report the loss to the Ladder.

    Direct IP
Basically, Direct IP games work by directly connecting to another computer over the Internet. An IP address is a unique set of numbers assigned to you when you connect to the Internet. It will look something like the following: 128.45.167.250. To find your IP address using Windows, click 'Start', 'Run', and type "cmd" in the textbox. From the command prompt, type "ipconfig" and then press the 'Enter' key on your keyboard. When you are in the chat room, determine who will be the host of the game and write down that person's IP address. You will then launch the game you are playing, and look for the 'Multiplayer' or 'Internet' option, or something similar. If you are hosting the game, you will have to wait for the other players to join you. If you are joining the game, you will need to enter the hosting player's IP address. When the match is over, the loser will report the loss to the Ladder.

TOURNAMENTS

SUBS - If a sub is needed for any round (except final round) other then Finals, the TD calls for ANY LEAGUE MEMBER TO SUB (they do not have to be registered for the tourney). THE PLAYERS MAY NOT REQUEST CERTAIN SUBS (remember we seed randomly, and subs should also be chosen randomly). SUBS MAY SIT ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. Players must allow the first sub that sits to play. If a player disconnects, subs will be put in as soon as the Pogo table allows a sub to sit. To keep the tourneys moving and on schedule, a bot must be used until a sub can sit. The finalists are allowed to choose a partner of their choice!

DISCONNECTION- If you are disconnected, you will be allowed 10 minutes to return to your game. If you return within 10 minutes you will continue to play. IF the game has ended before your 10 mins has expired you will advance to the next round. The clock stops when play stops. When new round begins, new clock begins.
The exception to this rule would be that for quickie games, the time clock is 5 minutes.

TOURNAMENT TABLE SEATING -The Tournament Host will call you to your table. If you do not sit to start the game within 3 minutes, the 10 minute Timer Clock will start on you and a random sub or a bot will replace you. If you are playing a ladder game you must finish the ladder game later (take note of score) and start your tournament game.

ABUSE

SPORTSMANSHIP-Respect All Players & Hosts- If you have an 'Opinion' about a hand played or a game that went awry, tell it to your dog or cat. Attacking someone with the intent to hurt them in any way may get you disqualified from the tournament, at the disgression of the Host of the Tourney.

ALONE ON 9 POINTS-This is not allowed in tournaments!
-You are allowed to 'Go Alone' on 8 points but you will be disqualified if you go alone with 9! Sometimes it is necessary to go alone on 8 points so that your partner doesn't trump the first trick (you may need the lead for 2nd trick!), thereby messing up your chance for 2 points and the win.
DO NOT 'GO ALONE' WITH 9 POINTS! It is disrespectful to the other team and your partner to go alone with 9 points. If you go alone on 9 points you will be automatically disqualified from the tournament, even if it was a mistake.
If a member goes alone on 9 points, the Host must be called to the table so they can witness the end result of the hand.
If a point is made, the partner gets credit for the win and is declared the winner of the game. The partner that went alone will be automatically be disqualified and his direct oppononent will advance as the 2nd winner of that game.

HARASSMENT GUIDELINES- Occasionally there are people in the lobby that make it their lifes goal to upset us. These type of people have a need for 'attention' and will say things for the sole purpose of 'getting our goat'. Don't fall for it....as a member we ask you to NOT ANSWER the abuse, and just mute them. This approach has proven to work! The abuser will leave if they get NO response from anyone! The Host will ask you to MUTE. Please follow our lead! You are encouraged to report the abuser to Pogo. If you cannot resist temptation and you lower yourself to the abusers level or say something inappropriate, you will be breaking the rules of this league and will have to accept the consequences of your actions. You may find yourself disqualified from a tournament, or have your account boxed for abuse. We strive to keep the lobby a stress free environment for everyone, including non league members. We do not 'own' the Orange Roughy room, we simply share it with Pogo members. Our staff is trained to handle abuse but our approach will not work without your cooperation.
