How to play in Pluto League:
(a short guide for new players)
Pluto League main page is www.myleague.com/pluto
1. What you need to play in Pluto League:
-be a member of the league (ask in the game room for an email invitation, or follow the link above to "ask for invitation")
-PAuth (see below)
-the pool game - either Sierra Maximum Pool or Sierra 3D Ultra Cool Pool . ( Cool Pool is recommended, because it has fewer bugs)
2. PAuth (Player Authenticator) is required
Pauth is a program required in Pluto League.
It MUST be running when you play Pluto matches.
It is a chat and anti-cheat program, with other very useful features.
You will download it from www.pauth.com (click on Player Authenticator, then download and setup)
When you open your PAuth program, it will ask you to log in using your Pluto League username and password.
3. What does PAuth do?
In PAuth:
-you see other Pluto members that are currently online
-you can chat with with them and see their Pluto stats
-you can see who they are playing, and on what game level
-you can report a loss to your opponent with one click
-you will see upcoming tournaments
-you can register to tournaments with one click
-you'll be able to ask for matches
-you can ask questions
Pauth is also an anti-cheat program. It looks for specific modifications to the game to prevent cheating.
It is required to have PAuth open when you play for Pluto League.
4. What is a League ? How does it work?
The league is a place where you can challenge yourself against other players, and get ranked based on your skill.
The ladder (rankings, standings) work because the match losers are required to report their loss.
The loser of match reports his loss to the Pluto ladder system.
5. How to report your loss ?
You can do it using your web browser, go to pluto web site and use the menus there to navigate to "report loss".
Or... much faster way ...you can use PAuth to right -click the winner's name and chose "Report Loss to..". This takes one second, and is the preferred method to report your loss.
You must report loss immediately after you lose, or you may be penalized.
Exception: If you play in a tournament you report your loss to the "Tourney Director" (TD), by saying the words "i lost" in the game room. At the end of the tournament, the TD will close the tournament and the league standings will be updated to reflect the outcome of all the matches in that tournament.
6. How to play for Pluto?
You can play in regular matches or tournaments matches.
Open your PAuth, and log in.
In PAuth ask a player for a match, or just ask "match ne1" (meaning "match anyone").
Or if you see someone asking for a match you can say "here" and tell him what game to rack, and in what pool room.
Or you can register to a tournament. Tournament matches count for standings, just like regular matches.
7. Playing regular Matches.
There are rules regarding match play...such as:
-what games you may or may not refuse to play
-who breaks
-who picks the rules
See League Rules (click on rules menu, on the main pluto web site at www.myleague.com/pluto )
It is important you know these rules.
8. Playing in Tournaments.
If you are a member of Pluto League, you can also play in tournaments. Tournament schedule is available on the pluto website.
Each tournament has its own little "mini web site", on which you can find out what game you will play, what rules, who else will play in the tournament...etc..
If you are in PAuth chat, you will see players posting the links to the tournament pages, some short time before the start of a tournament.
To play in a tour, you need to register to that tour. You can register in 2 ways:
-in PAuth, you will be able to register to a tournament with one click - very fast..just click the tournament link in PAuth chat
or
-register by going to that tournament's main web page in your browser. It just takes much longer that way.
Once you registered, you have the right to withdraw from the tourney, at any time, before the tourney starts.
Tournaments are made by a "tour director", also named "TD", who will be in the game room, as well as in PAuth, telling you who to play and settle any dispute that may arise during the tournament.
Make sure you read the rules found on tournament main page. You will see a link called "rules" but we don't post the tourney rules there (it's just inconvenient). The rules are always on main page of the tournament.
9. What other things do i need to know ?
There are many other things you will learn, and the quickest way is to spend some time in PAuth chat, and see what other players are doing. That's also the quickest way to get your questions answered, when you have any.
