Just recently, I had the plaeasure of entertaining a tournament of 375 softball teams at my local restaurant in Kissimmee Florida. All of the teams were competing @ the Disney Sports Pavillion. After a week long discussion with the hundreds on players I came across, I could not help but draw comparison to the game we hold dear to our hearts; Golden Tee Golf. I was bedazzled by the amount of players that incompassed this large tournament. The simple question that I asked was, 'Why come from all over the country to comptete in this tourney, with all these players that may be larger than you and have a better chance of winning ?'. I got the same response from everyone. They all agreed, that with the ball pitched so slow, and so predictable, that they all believed they had a chance to win. I was dumbfounded. Inevitably, the team with the best players won. They weren't large. They weren't even to the point of me considering it an unfair advantage. What made the winning team most successful, was the fact they worked more effectively as a team than the rest of the players.I researched the amount of softball players to the amount of baseball players that play competitively in the United States. The results showed that there are more than a 10 to 1 ratio of softball players to baseball players in the United States. Again, I was dumbfounded.
The reason why there are more softball players to baseball players is for several simple reasons that I drew comparison to our beloved game. The results were astonishing. They were because:
1. There was a simpler way to succeed.
2. There was more companionship represented.
3. There was little selfishness due to the fact of even capability of competiteveness.
4. No matter what the finish, 84% still felt they left feeling like a winner. The reason I submit my recent findings (not to the surprise of many), I felt compelled to share this to the people I have grown dear to, my Cases companions.
I feel that Cases has become a more Lev6 orientated ladder that has centered itself on the 'VALUES' that would represent a 'baseball' type of atmosphere. I love this ladder. It is full of great individuals, competitive individuals with whole-heartedness. After playing this ladder for almost 6 years, I have seen it digress into a ladder of 'shame', 'selfishness', 'finger-pointing', 'dismality', 'totality with disregard to team', and most of all 'seclusivism'.
As a ladder, we need to further our longetivty by representing 'VALUES' that better represent the FOUNDING LADDER OF GOLDEN TEE GOLF.
I want everyone to feel like we are in a softball league: A league where everyone feels welcome and everyone feels like they have a chance to win. I feel a good majority of Lev6 players misrepresent this ladder and bring it shame by excluding the 'average joe'. We need to bring that element back to this ladder and succeed forthright as a team, a union of players that uniformitavely believe we can become the best ladder on GTG.
We play a computer program that was developed in 1998 and is still played 8 years later, in a competitive and sociable manner. To preserve this, we need to act more like ambassadors of the game instead of 'Barry Bonds' of the game.
I love this ladder and will always play and promote it to other players. I apologize if I have upset any long-standing players, but I feel this needed to be addressed.
Long live our ladder.
