As I've posted before, Im always looking to stop viruses/spyware etc before it happens.

WELL recently I downloaded the new AIM client - since yes even my trusty trillian was giving me fits. Well low and behold, dum dum dummmmm there was some spyware that accompanied the install.

AIM is now packaged with something called Wild Tangent. I presume its to play games, however, I dont through AIM. (K-- if you think its necessary to your existance just ignore the rest of this.)

According to their own site this --

Here is what WildTangent does: It sends anonymous information about the user's computer to an automated process that ensures the right game components are installed, assists with quality assurance, and tells us what kind of games are most popular. The information cannot be used for marketing or ad purposes since the process is anonymous.
Most spyware and adware detection software is not sophisticated enough to tell the difference between harmful reporting and helpful kinds of reporting, such as WildTangent's.

Well, if your like me ANY kind of reporting is just.. well NONE of their business! PLUS since I dont play games on AIM, what are they gathering from me?? ANYWAY... If you even care, I recommend taking a lil stroll over to the Ad-Aware site. Download this, most EXCELLENT program, be sure to update the definitions. THEN sit back and watch it add up all the instances of Spyware== before downloading AIm i had 2 a week, mostly annoying little cookies from bravenet... TODAY i had 99.

You be the judge. But hey if you LIKE Wild Tangent, and whatever they are offering you though AIM, Rock on. Otherwise... Quarantine your heart out!
