I understand your frustration, anytime a website changes from old to new there is a definite transition process that must be undergone by everyone to familiarize themselves with the new design. It is true the old layout loaded much faster, this is because it was primarily text. The new layout has more images and therefore takes a bit more time to load. However, if you have your browser set to save images you see frequently the load time should reduce accordingly.
There are no plans to return to the old design; but, I'd like to recommend you visit the following website as there is a Tutorial available that I hope might help you to learn to navigate the new layout more efficiently:
