It appears that what is likely happening is that the Yahoo mail servers are blocking mail from us when a particular threshold is reached - most likely the amount of mail coming from our mail server to theirs. When the volume isn't particularly high, the mail gets through, but if suddenly that threshold is reached, my guess is that we get blocked for x amount of time. I don' speak mail server, but hopefully one of our developers will be able to tweak some things to help more mail get through.
