In my opinion changing the time frame for when derunging occurs will have little or no affect. The only thing that will change is that whoever gets to number 1 will have the luxury of staying there for 1 more day even if they are inactive. There are 2 things that are affecting the current . The definition of active/non-active because when derunging occurs it is seen as activity which defies all logic. Ergo you get runged for inactivity which in turns registers as activity.
Changing it to either 2 or 3 days before derunging occurs will only delay the time for when derunging occurs because the rules for inactivity has not changed. It will not have any other positive affect and nor will it change the actual problem with the ladder. We only have 15 active players and nobody actually plays ladder games. It seems to be that this is being run as a ladder when it fact it is not played or used that way.
I also note that in the past the alternative games did not register or affect the ladder. Not sure when that changed and it may well be that was put to a vote during my absence.

In my humble opinion, I think the 48-hour rule before losing rungs would be a good one. You can play every day in a tournament, but sometimes if you only play in one of the two or three tournaments scheduled, because of the 24-hour rule, it is still possible to lose rungs depending on the exact times of the tournaments and tournament start times. Or, perhaps, if the timeframe for playing in a game was Midnight to Midnight, if you played anytime in that period, that would satisfy the one game per day requirement without losing rungs.
