    Hello yspades,

Could you please express your opinion regardless of what it may be to the following question:

"What do you feel the benefits or disadvantages would be to moving this ladder to a different Yahoo! Spades room? Also, would you be for or against this move?"

This is merely to get an idea of interest in this possible change.

Thank you for your time and support!

I have been on this league for many years as well... There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to move.

When we gathered (years ago) in Everest it was difficult to get in, but it was FULL with YSPADES players - I think the reorganization/revival of this league is happening and there is no reason to move us again. The stability of a specific room will bring players back.

While I can't "live spades" (as I had been able to years ago), I am completely ready to do what I can to help get YSPADES back to glory...

First - thank you for asking.

Second - I don't think it's a good idea to move the room. We don't want to lose anyone who might be looking for us. All the rooms are public so we really can't control who comes in on an individual basis and we certainly can't control their behavior in the lobby. There is another league playing in The Battlefield, but they don't seem to have a lot of players either so there's been no threat of shutting people out of the room because it's too full. We pitched our tent in the Battlefield, let's not break camp.

Third -- regarding the other comments about the league from the players, I for one miss playing competitive spades with great players and having fun with a bunch of nice people. I saw others expressing the same feelings, so I decided to step up and become a TD and offer a beginning, which is to make tournaments so that we all know where and what time to find each other to play. It's a start. RUcrazy has also been tireless in her efforts, and I'm grateful to her for caring so much.

Fourth: re the fall of Rome and why -- the past is behind us, the only purpose in rehashing it is to make sure we don't make the same mistakes again. I used to play at least one game here at least three days a week for more than eight years, but I flew the coop because:

      1. Rules -- there were so many rules being made to try to thwart the cheaters that it was impossible to relax and enjoy a game of spades anymore. The rules became a punishment for all instead of a deterrent for some. I think the rules we have now are sufficient.

      2. Cheaters -- there are cheaters everywhere, especially when people inexplicably derive a huge measure of their self-esteem from ladder rank or yahoo spades ratings. Can't explain it because I don't understand it LOL.

No matter how many rules you make, cheaters will find a way to cheat. If you know for a fact that someone is cheating, you kick them out of your league and you ban them from coming back. It's difficult to prove that someone is cheating, because there are so many ways to do it that are undetectable. And, since this is a virtual environment, in the past it was probably near impossible to ban them, but these days with most on static IP's it might be an easier task.

It is frustrating to have to play with cheaters. However, my advice is to remember the serenity prayer and know that if you can't change it, don't sweat it. The problem is theirs, not yours. And if you really don't want to play with someone, just don't play them.

      3. What I want from a spades league -- I want no-drama spades, I want competitive spades, I want the opportunity to play with players who are better than me so I can continue to learn and so I can be challenged. I want to have fun with fun people. That's what I had in cases before, and that it what I hope to find here again someday.

Thanks again for asking, sorry you got more than you asked for! LOL :-) See you all at the tables. Justy

I too have read all your posts, and about moving to a new room...I agree with you.
WE have help here now from Cases, let's ALL do our very best to get new folks, and get as many of the old players back (not referring to age) as you can.
Develop a strong set of rules, governing profanity, cheating, rudeness and the like. Let's let it be known that this is a fun ladder that won't tolerate the troublemakers.
As TD Manager here, I promise to back up your TD's and HTD's. You show me that someone is cheating in a tournament, and I will enforce the rules of tournaments. The OPs will have to do it from the ladder side.
NOW is the time, and HERE is the place. Show Cases you are serious about rebuilding this league and your memories.

Well, I have read everyones comments so far.

I'm like everyone one else here, who knows what happened in the past, who was a TD then, at some point. I didn't like being a TD because it took away from my fun time in the ladder.

I know everything nightwind, poolshootingmama, tparn, bsmc, and everyone else here has been talking about. I was here for many years, and I left when our room was moved, as I did not like the way we were greeted by the other members, already in the room.

It became alot of arguments, alot of stress and took away from the fund we were having.

Unfortunately in my old age, I can't remember all the players who were rude, and kicked off, etc., as I like to block bad memories and keep the good. And all of you were my good memories and wonderful memories.

All of u knew me as the wise crack.. The person who played to have fun, the person who didnt care if I won or lost a game. Many people were solely about winning, but those people didn't mind having me as a partner either, because they knew when it came down to it, I can Kick some real butt when I play.

I gave my heart and sole to the ladder,to my friends here. This was my only life, since finances did not and still have not provided a better way of life.

Now my heart and sole go to my children, but I need this ladder back. I need my sanity time from the children. I need my friends here. We all need this ladder back. I feel strongly this can be done.

<< My feelings are if this ladder was to move rooms, we want sole control of the yahoo room. No other ladders, leagues, etc. I do understand the Monkey's are uncontrollable,,,, but never say never.. I would love to be in a full room... But at the same time, those people will probably feel invaded. So we would need to welcome them, (even though they may not want our spam, in the lobby.) That would be the only reason, I feel the ladder should move.. If we were not the sole users as ladder/league, etc., then we should just stick it out here.

All good things come in time, with the right leaders, the right attitudes, warm and welcomness of all of us.... We need to be the housewarming party to the battlefield. (Not the Grinch that stole the Battlefield or where ever we land.)

We my novel is over for now.
Take Care....... no matter what you think night,,,, I still luv u 2.

Its wrong to even think about such a thing, That was part of the down fall to begin with we didnt start in the battle field we lost a lot of players when they moved us the first time and now what few we have left they going to move us again its a good thing i cant get a refund on my gold it was bad enough that cases let the cheaters run rapid and not ban them but please dont kill the memory and i also agree with tparen and mama both thir comments was right on the money but i suppect we will be booted to the side cause if cases had listen to the players or ops this league will still be strong but what does any players opinion matter or count for any thing

        Hi there,

I assume that my asking of everyone's opinion would show that we do care about what everyone thinks about changes that occur on this ladder.

I have no idea what might have happened years ago and I apologize for that but as I said previously I'd like to look past that and see if we can get this ladder goin again. You actually do have a team of people looking into ways of doing just that!

If you have suggestions feel free to let us know in the forum!

        We DO appreciate it!

The only advantage I can think of in moving would be to go to a room with more players and try to recruit them to join. But the rooms with the most players already have leagues in them. We won't be greeted warmly when we raid another league's roster.

The bigger question is how to rebuild this league. Stealing players from other leagues isn't the answer. There are a lot of former players who would consider coming back. They are waiting to see if someone is going to create and enforce fair rules.

They are also waiting to see exactly who comes back. There are a lot of players with bad reps who are not wanted here. If they are allowed to come cheat, be rude, and harrass the ones who want a fair game against skilled opps, then there is not need for this league.

I don't see any good reason to move to another room - there are existing leagues in most of them - MyLeagues, Monkeys, and others. In my opinion we should plant ourselves in the Battlefield and get the word out to as many players as possible via email, IMs and postings in the forum that we are serious about building a new, strong, and fair ladder here.

We need some committed volunteers but we need to see some changes and committment for fair play from the top. A statement and apology in this forum from Abi and Patti for letting us down so badly years ago (when we so desperately needed backup for the TDs and Ladder Ops, fair policies, responsiveness to the committee suggestions, and serious rules enforcement) would be a good start.

I hope it happens - I miss the days when we had so many devoted Cases players that we filled three Yahoo rooms.

        Hey Lace,

I appreciate your opinion in this.

I see you're concerned with fair rules. Could you provide me some examples? Suggestions would be great! We'd love input on this. :) I apologize about any incident(s) that occured years ago and I'm afraid I wasn't involved therefore I can't make any comments about that but I'd like to have us put our best foot forward and go for the best. Let's get this site movin' again.

Volunteers ARE needed. Feel free to submit LadderOp and TD applications on the left hand side.

Let's see what we can do to clean this place up!

          Thanks for asking.

I'm one of the original members, but I'm getting old and my memory might be a little faulty. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will step up and correct me.

Long time ago we had hundreds of active players. Over time we - the players and ladder ops - helped customize quite a few rules - usually in reaction to some drama or incidents during games or in the lobby. Case's also changed up the rules and had quite the heavy hand with ladder ops and tds when premium members fussed. Things started levelling off, but the character of some of the players deteriorated and we struggled to find a way to keep the games fair.

Our main concern was to try to control the troublemakers. Obviously, if you want to cheat badly enough there are plenty of ways to do it. We'll never stop all of it. But the frustration was that when cheaters were caught, Case's would not back up the ladder ops and tds. A lot of it was who knows who, who was sleeping with or cybeirng who, and who was a premium member vs us schmucks who had no money or no life. Certain authority figures did some really bizarre things to members and we got pretty discouraged.

At one point a large group of the really active and concerned players formed a rules committee. We were all volunteers and we cared deeply about this place. We held many meetings and hashed out a bunch of rules and suggestions for making this a better ladder. But Case's turned a deaf ear - and that's putting it nicely.

I probably still have some rules copied someplace, although that was at least 8 computers ago. . . I even have the standings of the top 100 from every fews months and a diary of who I played and who I parded. I was quite the addict.

To be honest, I don't know if enough of us geezers will ever forgive Abi and Patti for what they did to us. I don't know that we can wipe the slate clean and try to start this up. There are tons of MyLeagues out there and only a handful that last more than a few months or do anything but silly tournaments. Case's was all about rank and that has not been duplicated.

I think there are less than a dozen MyLeagues that have lasted more than 1 year with the same principal admins. Most of the leagues have their own dramas and clicque of cyber friends. This is a tough crowd and it's hard to find good people that are willing to put up with all the crap a volunteer has to endure. Been there - done that - not willing to put up with it anymore, especially after being screwed over by Abi.

That said, I would like to play here again. I have fond memories of lots of good times and the skill level of the old cases players can't be touched in the MyLeagues.

Promises come cheap - and hurt runs deep. I need to hear an apology and know that the peeps in the ivory tower are sincere about making this work.

As for the old rules, my personal papers are back in Nashville and I'm living in San Fran, so I can't just dig through the old notebooks easily. Not going back to Nashville until the end of Feb for my birthday. Some of the rules stuff is easy enough to recall and some might need to be discussed and revised anyways. If you want to talk about rules, I'll make time this weekend to talk with whoever wants to contribute to that discussion.

Thanks again for asking and for letting me have my say,

that covered a lot of it as you know you still could write a book on that subject bottom line is still cases wont ban the cheats to worried about the money when they tell me they will ban the cheats when the evidence is there like screen shots of peoples convos that they had during a game then they just box them let me know when they do that we might just get some where lol Thanks for asking.

US OLD TIMERS HAVE PLAYED IN THIS ROOM FOR EONSSSS, AND I DO MEAN EONSSSS. WE HAVE TRIED REPEATEDLY TO GET PEOPLE TO COME HERE AND PLAY AND TRY AND GET THIS LEAGUE BACK UP N RUNNING OR AT LEAST SHOWING SOME POSTIVE SUPPORT FOR IT. IT HASNT BEEN EASY AND HAS PRETTY MUCH BEEN A MUTE POINT. BUT THERE ARE THOSE THAT STILL NONE THE LESS, TRY TO GET IT ACTIVE AGAIN.
BUT FOR US TO MOVE ROOMS, I THINK WOULD BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE LEAGUE. I HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR 10 YRS, AND I KNOW THE ROOMS THAT HAVE LEAGUES IN THEM ALREADY. IF OUR LEAGUE GETS MOVED TO ANOTHER ROOM BY MEANS OF A ROOM SHARE (CUZ MOST ARE ALREADY TAKEN) WE WOULD STILL HAVE TO GET MEMBERS TO GO IN THERE AND PLAY. THE ONLY ROOM THAT WE COULD MOVE TO WOULD BE AN INTERNATIONAL ROOM, AND SOME PEOPLE JUST DONT KNOW HOW TO GET TO THOSE ROOMS.
WE HAVE THIS ROOM LOCKED DOWN (I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE IS ANOTHER LEAGUE IN THERE PLAYING, AND I DONT KNOW IF IT IS A CASES LEAGUE, A MYLEAGUE, A MONKEYROAYLE OR WHATEVER OTHER LEAGUE IT MIGHT BE, BUT TECHINCALLY IT IS OUR ROOM. IF THE OTHER LG IS BREAKING RULES BY PLAYING IN A MARKED ROOM, WE NEED TO STEP UP AND TAKE CHARGE OF OUR ROOM.
I THINK MOVING IT WOULD BE A VERY BAD MOVE, I THINK WE NEED TO CONCENTRATE MORE ON GETTING OUR MEMBERS HERE AND PLAYING THAN MOVING OUR LEAGUE. I KNOW A MAJORITY OF SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE JOINED OTHER LEAGUES AND SUCH, AND ARE COMFORTABLE IN THEIR LEAGUE, BUT IF WE COULD JUST GET SOME HERE TO PLAY EVERY SO OFTEN, WE MIGHT BE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

NOW CAN SOMEONE HELP ME IN GETTING MY LIFE TIME GOLD BACK, I AM SOOOOOO UN-SURE AS TO WHAT HAPPENED TO IT. BUT I HAD TO RE-JOIN THIS LEAGUE IN ORDER TO PLAY IN THE NEW YEARS EVE TOURNAMENT, CUZ MY ID WASNT FOUND (IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME GET IT BACK, PLEASE EMAIL ME), I HAVE EMAILED CASES 4 TIMES BUT HAVE GOT NO HELP.

      THANKS

: WE HAVE THIS ROOM LOCKED DOWN (I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE IS ANOTHER LEAGUE IN THERE PLAYING, AND I DONT KNOW IF IT IS A CASES LEAGUE, A MYLEAGUE, A MONKEYROAYLE OR WHATEVER OTHER LEAGUE IT MIGHT BE, BUT TECHINCALLY IT IS OUR ROOM. IF THE OTHER LG IS BREAKING RULES BY PLAYING IN A MARKED ROOM, WE NEED TO STEP UP AND TAKE CHARGE OF OUR ROOM.
: I THINK MOVING IT WOULD BE A VERY BAD MOVE, I THINK WE NEED TO CONCENTRATE MORE ON GETTING OUR MEMBERS HERE AND PLAYING THAN MOVING OUR LEAGUE.

: NOW CAN SOMEONE HELP ME IN GETTING MY LIFE TIME GOLD BACK, I AM SOOOOOO UN-SURE AS TO WHAT HAPPENED TO IT.

: US OLD TIMERS HAVE PLAYED IN THIS ROOM FOR EONSSSS, AND I DO MEAN EONSSSS.
: BUT FOR US TO MOVE ROOMS, I THINK WOULD BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE LEAGUE. I HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR 10 YRS, AND I KNOW THE ROOMS THAT HAVE LEAGUES IN THEM ALREADY. Hey poolshootingmama,

Thank you for the input. We have no intentions on forgetting or erasing the "eonssss" of history this ladder has. This post was merely to determine the feel of current members whom may be for or against a change. Currently there are the three occupants of the room, one that is a Yahoo! League, and another which is not affilated with our site. Therefore, no a MyLeague is not violating any rules.

We're attempting to revive the ladder and more Tournament Directors and even LadderOps would be great to help! Feel free to apply via the links on the left hand side.

As far as your Lifetime Gold, I must suggest you submit a Support Request on the left under "Premium Support" they can research the problem and hopefully come up with a solution for you!

        Respectfully,

        Stephen

      It is a bad idea.
For one thing...I think I read that one of the reasons they wanted to do it was because of the Monkeys.
Newsflash...the Monkeys modus operandi IS to infiltrate active league rooms.
They don't want rooms of their own...they want to try to suck the life out of other ladders and leagues to increase their membership.
So if that is the only reason...then it would be counterproductive.
Where there is another league...there will be monkeys.
      Just my .02.

        Hey,

        I appreciate your ".02" :)

We were simply assesing the situation to best determine a way of reviving the ladder.

There is a Yahoo! League as well as another league not affiliated with our site that seems to occupy the current room. A plus would be that they're aware this ladder exists but have stated they rarely see anyone. That's what we'd like to change.

        Thank you for your time,
