Okay, I give up. I have noticed the lobby population dwindling, but tonight at 11:40 there was NOBODY to play. Any reasons or theories for this dearth of players?- Re: Where is everyone? View

Wish I knew, Helen. I'm not privy to all the inside politics of the board. Hope there hasn't been a mass exodus. I was on 8:30 p.m. Eastern Sunday night and there were two other people total. Checked in a few times during the afternoon and it was the same way.I'm not all that bothered by the accused cheater, although the accuser does make a valid point and has obviously done the research.
Even the 1000-rated NSA players, like myself, have a few pet "weird" words that we've sprung on others in tournaments (I've played ZINGARI, NILGHAUS, and I can't wait to play RENVOIS in place of VERSION!) Last month at a NY tourney I saw a fellow 1000-gamer open with WOOMERA to everyone's astonishment. I'd hate to think that if I played these words here online that someone would think I was using a Franklin...

For those that do this sort of thing...I present you a list of bingos played by one of our top players. How useful you find it may vary amongst the the different levels of players here, nonetheless...in no particular order:

: VISCOSE
: WICOPIESFor those contemplating joining the NSA, you may want to think it over. The person responsible for every one of the words listed above has played in 5 NSA sanctioned tourneys since January 01. In that time, their ratings have catapulted from 1197 to 1238.
This player has amassed a 31 win 21 loss and 1 tie record over the course of those 5 tournaments. This player has played exactly 3 opponents rated over 1400 (1409, 1411 and 1428). This players' opponents have had an average rating of 1136.
Taken into consideration this players lofty status here...68% wins against a field I'm sure whose collective average would be somewhat higher than 1136, makes you wonder what the expert level NSA players would be doing to us.- Re: Where is everyone? View

Hmmmm. Interesting answer, but I'm blonde and I'm old and you need to spell it out for me. Does this mean that no one wants to play here anymore because of the strong suspicions of cheating among many of the top ranked players? If so, why would playing anywhere else alleviate this problem? I've tried games.com and people bail on you there in a heartbeat if you play a stem bingo. It just seems a shame that something can't be done about the situation here. For instance, what if there are no penalties for refusing to play a suspected cheater? Of course, then anyone who wins more than 50% of their games might have trouble finding an opponent! I don't have an answer for fixing this ladder. Does anyone else?- Re: Where is everyone? View

I don't have an answer for fixing this ladder. Does anyone else?I used to love playing here. But it seemed I was the only one playing phonies and challenging unsuccessfully. Sooooo I returned to V1 for the community of it all. V1 has its clumsy cheaters but there are many more noncheaters.
Maybe the cheating wouldn't bother me as much if I studied.
Forming a NSA only Scrabble ladder would do wonders. Peer presure is amazzzzzzing.
Kudos for me.
My leadoff play against ScrabDave the other day was gainsay (1 blank), from my pre-scrabble vocabulary.

: Forming a NSA only Scrabble ladder would do wonders. Peer presure is amazzzzzzing.Boy that sounds like an idea. It could be done with a new myleague that insisted that everyone install a custom TWL98 Dictionary ("Tournament Word List" for the uninitiated). Which version though? Hmm... For the old CD it would get rid of the DA/DES/VIN issue and even the new one would add back all of the "offensive" words purged from the OSPD years ago.
This would cause problems switching back to the main ladder though because if your opponent has a different dictionary than you do disastrous results are rumored to occur in a challenge situation.
Intriguing thought though!
