Poem I wrote after mom and dad passed away in July of 2008: Hope you enjoy reading

Dedicated to Billy and Arovinia Rankin
Written by Betsy Rankin

Please don’t weep for us and do not grieve
for us for too long.

We were here with you for quite a while
and it was our time to go.

Remember us with love and gladness
for the family we shared.

When life was difficult we withstood it together .
We continually grew as a family.

Our dreams became your dreams, as God's plan
for us to carry on.

After 80 years we were tired and we needed to go,
but we didn't want to leave you.

I am there in the flowers I loved;
in the shopping trips to get things we did not need.

Sitting on the porch in the sun, soaking up the warmth.

I am there.

When you close your eyes at night, know that I love you my children.
You were my best friends and your Dad always my other half.
I loved him so much that I had to go with him.

You kids know me; I had to get there first to get God's place ready for us.

And I am there in the long drives we loved to take.
Just look around and you will see me.

We loved the fish boxes and the cookouts with our family.

You will see me in all you do.
Dads are always close behind to give advice and to guide you;
whether through tears, joy, or laughter.

My will power, you will be telling friends about.
My gift to you is the courage to admit you have a problem, but then conquer it.

That is my voice you hear as you go to sleep, telling you how proud I am of you.

My body was tired and it was time to go; to let you stand on you own, with me in your heart.

Your mother and I belong together and through God's grace we lived and loved and left the perfect way.

So dear children do not cry for us because we are gone. Rejoice in the gift God gave us in leaving together.

You have our hearts to guide you. Each of you will teach your
children and we will live on for generations to come.

Our souls are not on earth. The grave only has a borrowed body that God provided.
We are up here looking down on you and we are so proud of what we see.

Our final words to you are to look for the good in our passing.  We have just begun our eternal lives
in the most wonderful place.

Let your hearts heal, look after each other.
Don’t weep for us. Rejoice in the love we shared yesterday, today and forever.

There is no greater gift than what we have given you, and in return, you have given us as parents.

Remember us always with love and laughter. Go on with your lives and someday we will be together
again in the paradise we now have.

Love,
 Mom and Dad
